What happens when you lose everything — and still keep walking?

A Drunk With a Passport follows a man who should’ve stayed home and healed… but doesn’t.

Instead, he travels through chaos, comedy, and emotional wreckage—searching for meaning in:

  • empty bottles

  • loud karaoke bars

  • strangers who feel like family

  • sun-blasted seas

  • and bowls of noodles that somehow keep saving his life

This is a story about pain you can’t outrun…
and joy you can’t kill.

A Drunk With a Passport follows a newly divorced, newly broken man through bars, boats, beaches, backroads, and back surgery as he attempts to outrun grief and collides with God.

Haunted by a forgotten childhood dream born in a refugee camp, he searches for meaning in bowls of noodles, in empty bottles, in the kindness of strangers, in sun-blasted seas, and in the wild promise of places that shouldn’t exist.

Between drunken karaoke, island detours, unlikely friendships, and spiritual whiplash, he begins to realize that healing isn’t the absence of pain — it’s learning how to carry joy and damage in the same body.

Funny, profane, poetic, and deeply human, A Drunk With a Passport is a memoir about reinvention, identity, diaspora, and the ridiculous idea that life can still surprise you long after you think it’s over.

About B.O.L.O. Lee

Kao “B.O.L.O.” Lee is an author and builder whose work explores identity, reinvention, and the strange beauty of starting over.

Born in Laos in 1979, he spent his earliest years in refugee camps in Thailand before immigrating to the United States with his family at age eight. Raised in Northern California, he became the first Hmong valedictorian of his high school and later earned a full-ride scholarship to California State University, Long Beach.

He is the author of All In: Beat the Odds in Sales and writes stories that blend humor, grit, heartbreak, and hope — often guided by the same compass that keeps him alive: noodles, faith, and the stubborn refusal to quit.
